It was a hard pick for this month, I was really debating on old men or high school au but old men won out (highschool will return for September, don’t you worry)!
I’ve been drawing Mikael and JP as old men for a long time and I love it every time I come back to it! I wish 22 year old me made them old for the whole comic, but what can you do!
Old Man AU
It’s been 25 years since the apocalypse hit Toronto. Mikael is a bit of a hermit that lives out in the suburbs in a house he made his own, while JP lives in the downtown core where most of the population works hard to sustain what’s left of the city. Mikael is a bit of an enigma, but his path crosses with JP. Cue the whole story of canon Dead City but with old men and less sad stuff happening.
What do we need to get this party on the road?

Every month I post up a sketchbook for $5 patrons on my Patreon. May was such a wild month and it was a lot of fun, but I’m so glad it’s over! So here’s the sketchbook from one of the busiest months of my life!

Mermaid AU
Mikael is a red dragonfish who lives on the coast near a small town. He’s friends with some locals and has a good life, but doesn’t know any other merpeople. JP is an orca and lives in the ocean with his pod. JP met Mikael as he was travelling through the coast and he almost immediately fell for him.
I’ve drawn them as merpeople many times before, but it looks like this is the only sketch I ever actually posted.
Every month I post up a sketchbook for $5 patrons on my Patreon, and I’m very please with this last month’s sketchbook! This was my first month without doing a Gender Slices page and it just feels good to do more self-indulgent art now! The last few pages are my favourite because I started working on an impromptu zine that’ll be at TCAF!
The start of chapter 31 and a new look for Mikael! And just a reminder that we’ll be going on hiatus throughout the month of May but guest comics will be posted in place of regular updates. Guest comics will go up every Tuesday at 12pmEST and go until May 28th. TopazComics will also be boothing at TCAF this year on May 11-12th. We’ll have Dead City and Gender Slices books, as well as stickers and prints and zines! Come say hi and we’ll post more updates about TCAF closer to the date!

JP is a tiefling who grew up in a library and took on being a cleric after a lot of research into who he wants to be. He’s still not quite sure.
Mikael is a half-elf bard who just wants to play music! He collects instruments and spends his time learning new ones.
The two of them meet when they both join a caravan.
