Announcement for August (IMPORTANT!!)

I wanted to give everyone a lot of notice but I’ll be taking August completely off this year!

I’ve been so darn busy with freelance work, which is great, but I haven’t had a break and have run out of my comics and personal art buffer. So I’ve decided to not post ANYTHING in August: no comics on Topaz, no OJST, no sketchbook, and no Friday public art. I’ll be putting my Patreon on break for August, so Patrons won’t be charged for that month. This’ll be the first time I’ve ever paused my Patreon since I opened it in 2017.

Then I plan to come back in September stronger than ever (hopefully!) I hope you’ll look forward to what I’ve got coming up~

~~~
June Schedule
Working on getting back into the swing of things with my schedule now that I’ve reached all my deadlines. Bare with me if things are delayed!
  • $1 members get Patreon early access posts on Tuesdays and Fridays
  • $5 members get Patreon posts on Wednesdays and my Sketchbook PDF at the end of the month
  • $10 members get Patreon posts every other Thursday (or more) & a shoutout request every month
  • Free comics are posted every Tuesday on Topaz Comics
  • Free illustrations are posted every Friday on my art blog and most social media sites (links above in the “latest public art” section)
NIB & INK FEST 2026
A graphic for “Nib & Ink Fest 2026” which is written as a title. Inkling, holding a skateboard, announces, “Come draw things to a close at our closing ceremony!” Nibford is doing a trick on their own skateboard, shouting, “Be there!” The date is listed at the bottom: May 31, 5:00-6:00pm EDT
Graphic by Cally (bubblyernie) @ https://instagram.com/bubblyernie/ https://bubblyernie.tumblr.com/
NIF 2026 comes to a close on May 31st at 5pm EDT
I’ll be one of the hosts for the closing ceremony tomorrow so come by and help us draw things to a close!
And don’t forget to check out NIF for one more day wooooo!!
I’ve got two comics in the marketplace: Gender Slices and Touchdown/After Practice Double Feature
Cool Comic Recommendation
Wychwood by Ally Rom Colthoff (varethane)
Do you like aliens? Do you like magic? Do you like semi-post apocalyptic stories set in Toronto (I know you do because you’ve read Dead City~). Then you’ll love Wychwood! Made by a friend and past coworker of mine, and another comic trying to move away from Hiveworks, go give Wychwood a read. The art is beautiful and the characters are so much fun!
~~~

Other Things

I’ll be volunteering at the Cartoonists United booth at TCAF intermittently throughout June 6th and 7th. I’ll have just a handful of books on me. We’ll be at booth 139 on the hockey rink.

My websites have been having some server issues and I’m slooooowly working on transferring all my website stuff away from my current webhost Bluehost (they’re bad. don’t use them) to a Canadian webhost. So websites, emails, and RSS might go down when I do the big transfer. I’ll try and do it on a weekend so it doesn’t affect my Mon-Fri work email or comic updates.

~~~
We made it through! See you next month and HAPPY PRIDE~!!!
Webcomic Updates
“Mustang VixSkin® Review” a comic by Jey Pawlik, is done in warm greens, yellows, dark browns, and choppy black line art. Jey is a nonbinary transmasc person with a chubby build, short cropped hair, and a tiny bit of facial hair, in this comic they’re dressed up like a cowboy. Jey, the cowboy, is leaning on a fence as the sun rises behind them with their hat tipped to cover their eyes. They smile and say “For years I’d been on the hunt for a premium dildo. One that far outshines any other I’ve tried. And now, my search may finally be over."
A review on a toy I’ve had for a long time, I was surprised there hadn’t been one done already. So I stepped up and chatted about one of my favourites in this silly review! Yee-haw!
Cool Comic Recommendation
Ghost Junk Sickness by studioCARTRIDGE
Ghost Junk Sickness takes place in a galaxy far from our own. A majority of the story happens on the planet struck by the catastrophe 5 years ago, June7. It’s a post-apocalyptic world on the struggle to recovery, covered with outlaws and bounty hunters who’ve claimed it as their own.
A really long and really wonderful comic by another duo and this comic JUST wrapped up THIS MONTH (like 5 days ago)!!! Now is the absolute best time to go through and read the entire comic.
~~~

Other Things

I was asked to do more children’s book work, I’m working on this month’s regular OJST comic, I’m working on an extra OJST comic for the pledge drive in June, I’m in another Lupin zine, AND I’m heading the NIF promo committee all this month.

Things might be tight for a minute.

We’ll make it through!

Cool Comic Recommendation

Bicycle Boy by Jackarais

A really beautifully drawn queer post-apocalyptic webcomic (that started just a few months before Dead City actually) and is still going! It’s currently on hiatus but is on it’s way back this year so now is the best time to read through the huge archive.

I’ve linked to the about page just in case, there are some content warnings. It’s very beautiful violence!

Go show Jackarais some love!

~~~
Other Things
I finished up my children’s book work and now I’ve got some actual time to work on personal art again, yay!
Keep and eye out for commissions info, they’ll be opening up for all Patrons first in two weeks 👀
Lots of news of the fall of AI is out and about and I’m grinning! Mandates being submitted, Disney backing out of a deal with openAI, and Sora shutting down. 2026 is the year for humanmade art!
I’m excited to work on art and webcomics again. Alola, Darumaka is on the horizon~
~~~

Let’s keep making art! See you next month~

Webcomic Updates

Selling Sexy Comics, an Hourly Comics Day Special by Jey Pawlik, done in cool minty green tones with heavy blacks and black linework, with some oranges and yellows just on books and the booth. Jey is a white nonbinary person with short black cropped hair and big rectangular glasses wearing various cozy sweaters and cardigans. Jey’s partner, Max, is a white agender person with short tidy hair and wearing a button-up with a sweater on top and jeans. Narration: 7pm – the night before the con Jey and Max are working at their table, printing, folding, stapling and cutting a huge pile of zines. Max says “I cannot wait to finally get this zine out there!” Jey replies “Me too, it was a lot of work but I think it’s our sexiest one yet.” Max says “And you drew Betty’s orgasm splash page so well, Jey!” Jey slips a belly band on the zine “I Built You A Sex Machine” with a blurb about the comic, the price and a big 18+ notice. Jey says “It’s too bad though.” Max asks “What is?” Jey replies “That we can only sell these in person and not in our own online shop that we own! UGH Payment processors shouldn’t be allowed to restrict our smut. Adults should be allowed to buy porn!” Max agrees and says “I know, but at least we still have in-person shows we can sell these at.” Narration: 10pm Two suitcases are ready to go with a handwritten ribbon above them “all packed”, while Max and Jey look exhausted. Max wearily says “Well, that’s the last of it, finally.” Jey is on the ground giving a thumbs up. The two get ready for bed, brushing their teeth and washing their faces. Jey says “Shows are a lot of work, huh? Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth it.” Narration: 11pm, 12am, 1am Max and Jey are in bed and Max replies “Sure, but remember after every show we always say something like: That was fun, let’s do it again!” Jey says “That’s true! I hope the zine sells well.” Max says “Me too.”

February’s Oh Joy Sex Toy comic was an Hourly Comics Day Special all about what goes in to selling sexy comics at conventions!

This month’s sketchbook is up over on Patreon!

This month’s sketchbook is here!

Another busy month but I had a really great time drawing some silly doodles about my most recent Skyrim playthrough. I played Skyrim a LOT when it came out back in 2011 and during a heavy freelance month I felt the pull to start a new character.

Highlights this month: silly Lupin doodles, website design concepts and ideas, Darumaka, reaction to the Pokemon Direct, and as always some really great shoutouts from the Private Collector folks!

Website Updates!

Topaz Comics has been needing an update for a looooong time and I’m just starting to work on it and think of new ideas to update the site with.

Things I want to do: make better use of the sidebar, make the front page library more mobile friendly, compile and make a nice archive page for each comic, finish up links and extra pages!

Something I’m also playing with is adding “Thanks to our Patrons” list to our About & Links page, where I’ll list $5 members by their usernames, but give $10 members the option for a personalized icon on the site that they can then also go use wherever they want (not commercially)

~~~
Cool Comic Recommendation
Shaderunners by Lin Darrow & Alex Assan
Another friend’s comic that I love dearly. Shaderunners follows the story of a world where the colour has been pulled from it and are exclusively used by the elites of an alternate-reality’s 1920’s New York.
It’s got quite a backlog if you’re looking for something long to read and it’s still updating too~
Oh, did you know I did a guest comic for it too, back in the day?
~~~

Other Things

I was working on some children’s book freelance work, which has been different but very rewarding to work on!

I’m working on a side-OJST comic for the upcoming pledge drive in June so be on the look out for that. I’m still trying to decide what it’ll be about.

Commissions are still up in the air, but I’ll let everyone know when they’re back up!

Shop Updates!

The Topaz Comics Shop is now shipping out to the USA again — but JUST books and zines!!!

It sounds like other Canadians have had pretty okay experiences shipping books out to American customers, since books are exempt from the tariffs. I’m going to try it out and see how it goes, so if you’ve been wanting any books from the shop now’s your chance!

We also have digital PDFs available on the Topaz Comics Shop & my itch.io

Cool Comic Recommendation

Godslave by Meaghan Carter

This year I’m going to be highlighting webcomics that were previously hosted on Hiveworks, but after some tough times and a statement, many artists have since left Hiveworks due to mismanagement and some really terrible conditions. Check out the comics on Chimera Comics to support some really cool projects and help the artists out.

So my comic rec this month is Godslave by a good friend of mine and fantastic artist, Meaghan Carter! Dive in as Edith is tasked with the dangerous job of helping an Egyptian God?!! retrieve the missing pieces of himself.

I also did some cultural consulting on this comic for a really cool nonbinary character in the comic~

~~~
Other Things
I got a Kodak Charmera for Christmas and I’ve been enjoying working on a project just for me, where I take 1 photo every single day. It’s been so delightful! If you’re interested in tiny digital cameras, check this one out!
I’m working on a side-OJST comic for the upcoming pledge drive in June so be on the look out for that.
Commissions are still on hold while I work on a few freelance projects that’ve come in. I’ll let everyone know when they’re back up!
Webcomic Updates
This month’s OJST comic came out on the 9th “T with a Side of POP”, I’ve been excited to share this comic because I’m just so happy that I’ve nixed my period finally! Sometimes a low dose of T just isn’t enough to get rid of your period, but luckily there are options. I’m so grateful to my endo for helping me out and being super supportive.
There won’t be a January OJST from me, but I’ll be back in February!
We’ve wrapped up “Jigen, Now and Then” on Topaz Comics: The comic Max and I did for Tsushi’s charity zine “Jigen Before and After” — which raised $500 towards the Transgender Law Center!!
Cool Comic Recommendation
This is Not Fiction by Nicole Mannino
TINF is a webcomic I’ve been following for well over a decade at this point and it’s been such a lovely story to read as Nicole’s art and storytelling has grown!
The story follows Julian and his love for a particular romance novelist. He attempts several times to meet the author Sydney Morgan, even asking “The Godfather of School” for help and hijinks ensue. Who could Sydney Morgan really be?
~~~

New Years Resolution Bingo!

Last year I started doing a New Years Resolution Bingo card instead of feeling down and out about not getting ALL my resolutions checked off, bingo is a much more fun way to try and get some (but not all) done in a year. I didn’t get bingo this year, but that’s okay!

Want to do a New Years Bingo for yourself?

~~~
Other Things
I’ve wrapped up my first semester of teaching and am feeling good about it! I’m feeling inspired to work on COMICS!
2026 might be the year where I start a new webcomic, and I’m going to do my BEST!
I’m taking December off from a few things like OJST to get all my end of semester work done (lots of marking), so I won’t have a new comic in January but I’ll be back at the beginning of February with a new one so don’t you worry.
Webcomic Updates
Journal Entry DIY Strap-Ons Comic by Jey Pawlik, done in cool minty green tones with heavy blacks and black linework on top of textured paper with handwritten notes, stickers and washi tape made to look like a scrapbook. Young Jey in this comic is a questioning nonbinary person who uses they/them pronouns, has thin rectangular glasses, shaggy black hair and wearing simple clothes like a hoodie with jeans throughout the comic. Their partner, Max, is thin and sports a dark bob haircut, and wears a long sleeved top and skinny jeans. Narration: Back in our 20s, my partner and I visited Good For Her (a local sex toy shop) in Toronto. While we’d never been before – I was eager to take a look and maybe buy my very first strap on. Jey and Max arrive at the shop and start looking around in awe. They pick up a fancy looking strap-on, but the price tag is immensely high with three dollar signs and Jey says “Oh no, that price tho.” Their partner replies “Yeesh, yeah we can’t afford that on our budgets. Maybe we can find something smaller? More affordable?” and Max looks over to see a pack of o-rings for cheap. “You know what? We could just make our own strap-ons!” Max exclaims. Jey replies “Wait, for real?!” The two run off hand in hand. The bottom portion is covered by a pink ribbon with the text "Read the rest on Oh Joy Sex Toy".
This month’s OJST comic came out on the 11th, “Journal Entry: DIY Strap On”! Don’t have enough money for a fancy strap-on? Why not follow this fun autobio guide on how to craft your own strap-on!
A DIY guide for y’all with some true stories from my early 20s. It’s always weird to draw my younger self for an entire comic, I kept accidentally drawing my big glasses instead.
Cool Comic Recommendation
Gym Punk by Olibhéare
Gym Punk is a brand new nuzlocke comic by the ever talented Olibhéare! Follow Hal as he, a 30 year old, goes on his first Pokemon journey through Hoenn. The art is fun and the jokes are so charming.
I used to read a lot of nuzlockes back in my DeviantArt days, so a comic like this feels so nostalgic to me.
I also made a cool little rotating banner for my blog, where each comic I’ve recommended will appear every time you refresh the page or move to a different page on the site!
~~~

Other Things

I’ve just got 2 more classes left of the semester. It went by like a blur but, y’know? I think I really like teaching. Especially teaching comics!

I’m taking December off from a few things like OJST to get all my end of semester work done (lots of marking), so I won’t have a new comic in January but I’ll be back at the beginning of February with a new one so don’t you worry.

~~~
Wow, what a month! Here’s to December and nearing the end of 2025!
All Friday art is crossposted to tumblr, mastodon, pillowfort, bluesky, and jpawlik.com/blog and TWO months early for all Patrons — which also include sketches and thumbs with almost every piece!
I’m still slowly working on remaking my Patreon mirror on my art blog, it’s a work in progress so if menus appear and disappear that’s why.
Webcomic Updates
This month’s OJST comic came out on the 14th, and this time it’s all about T-Gel! What is it? How does it work? Is it right for you? Go on and read it and see if maybe it’s the HRT you’ve been dreaming of (’cause that’s what happened with me)
Read it here for free!
Three HRT diary comics went up this month over for free on Topaz Comics, I’m almost done wrapping up this short mini story.
Sketchbook cover for Jey's October 2025 Sketchbook with the links patreon.com/jpawlik and jpawlik.com/blog. The cover shows traditional sketches of Diana dressed as a witch flying on a broom, and six Darumaka in various Pokemon costumes: Togepi, Natu, Applin, Golbat, Galar Meowth and Flabebe.
Y’all this is my 100th sketchbook on Patreon! So this month’s sketchbook is up FOR FREE over on Patreon
If you’re new here, I do post a sketchbook PDF at the end of every month and you can see all those in the Sketchbook PDF collection if you’re a $5 or up member.
This month is a lot of fun Halloween doodles, some character design, logo design, and comic thumbs. And as always some great shoutout requests from my Private Collectors — if you’re a $10 member you get an inked request every month, included in my sketchbook!
Cool Comic Recommendation
What Happens Next By Max Graves
An absolutely incredible webcomic. The writing is so realistic and it feels so frighteningly real. Milo, a young trans man who’s extremely online, has been involved in a murder and he’s trying to find his way in the world after the horrible event. Everyone is problematic in the most interesting ways! I just can’t stop reading because what happens NEXT?!
Content warning this comic is for mature readers and includes: murder, death, blood, transphobia, homophobia, nudity, mental health, drugs, and a whole lot more
Other Things
Max and I will be at MCX in Mississauga as Topaz Comics! This is a free convention so come by and say hi on November 15th. I’ll also be doing a sketch challenge at 11am where the audience will give us ideas on what to draw in 20 minutes and have a chance to WIN said sketch!
I’m halfway done the semester now and teaching has been going really well. I love inspiring folks to make comics!!
My 35th birthday is coming up on November 5th and I’m still deciding what I want to do for it, maybe I’ll post some art.
~~~

That’s all for now, see you again at the end of November!

All Friday art is crossposted to tumblr, mastodon, pillowfort, bluesky, and jpawlik.com/blog and over a month early for all Patrons — which also include sketches and thumbs with almost every piece!

A small website update too: I redid my art blog look so it matches my portfolio. I’m still playing around with a few things on it, like maybe adding my non-Patreon membership option there so bare with me!

OH and I’ve got a pinned Q&A on my art blog as well, if you have questions feel free to comment on the post or pop one in my guestbook.

Webcomic Updates

WHAAAAAAAA–I’m back at OJST!

My comics will go up the 3rd week of every month. “Not Set In Stone” is about my decision to go on HRT and how I don’t need to listen to my 25-year-old self for the rest of my life.

Read it here for free!

Two HRT Diary comics for y’all this month, and the start of a 5 page HRT story.

Patreon Updates

This month’s sketchbook is up for the Grab Bag tier on Patreon

It was a very exciting and busy month but I’m thinking things will slow down now that I’m settling into my teaching position and I’ll be able to sketch a bit more. There’s sketches and thumbnails for projects I want to work on soon, concept art, thoughts and feelings, and of course Shoutout Requests from my very cool Private Collector gang!

Topaz Comics Shop

We’re back to Canada-only shipping due to tariffs on TOP of Canada Post being on strike once again. Topaz Comics has moved to Chitchats for shipping for the time being and I’ve added a local pickup option for folks local to the GTA.

Cool Comic Recommendation

Tiger, Tiger by Petra Erika Nordlund

I just realised I hadn’t talked about Tiger, Tiger yet?!

Maybe one of the best webcomics I’ve ever read. I’ve been a fan of Petra’s since my DeviantArt days in highschool (so almost 20 years ago). Tiger, Tiger is a high seas adventure with beautifully drawn ships and characters. A noblewoman steals her brother’s ship on her obsessive hunt for sea sponges but she may have found an eldritch horror god instead–who’s less horror and more hot butch some of the time.

Other Things

I’ll be at MCX in Mississauga, it’s a free convention so come by and say hi in November!

Commissions are closed until the new year due to time constraints, I’ll update when they’re open again.

I’m teaching now and really enjoying it! Professor Jey has a pretty nice ring to it.

Also to my knowledge, you ARE able to reply to this newsletter in your email if you ever want to leave a comment/feedback/fun fact for me and I’ll get an email reply.

~~~
Happy beginning of fall, I hope you’re able to get into the spooky feeling soon because I’ll chat with y’all at the end of October~
