Webcomic Updates
I took a break from comic updates this month on account of being up north for 3 weeks and it was lovely!
While I was up at the cottage I did start thumbnailing my next WEBCOMIC: In Search Of Analogue Days
So hopefully I’ll be able to get a good buffer for that and start posting maybe early next year. Any announcements will absolutely be in my newsletter!

Treasures of Time continues to be posted every Wednesday on Patreon and my VIP blog for Grab Bag members. I’m really enjoying this little Lupin photo album series I’ve been working on. I’m sure I’ll print it into a zine when I’ve collected enough of them, but for now they’ve been really nice to work on in my spare time and post really casually.

An update on tariffs: as of August 29th, the US is requiring a 30% tariff fee on ALL items of $800 or less from Canada. In the meantime I’m closing any shipments to the USA until I can figure out how this works with my site or if the US rescinds this decision. I am deeply upset by this because 90% of my sales come from American folks. It’s been a terrible ride lately for selling online and I’m so very tired.

Itch.io & NSFW media under attack
As of writing this on August 31st:
Itch.io has reinstated all my works but Stripe is no longer an option for payment and I feel uneasy with Paypal being the only option there. Itch.io has said they’re looking in to new payment processors but nothing new has developed yet.
I hold strong in my support of NSFW content and I highly recommend you contact Mastercard, Visa, Paypal and Stripe to tell them your displeasure in the situation. There’s lots of resources out there right now on how to fight back and I highly recommend you do, even if NSFW media isn’t your jam censorship helps no one. Please check out https://yellat.money/ for a list of phone numbers, petitions, and other ways to help.
As a NSFW artist myself I’m currently looking into other options for where to host my work or how to accept payment for those works. I have made a SubscribeStar and am just waiting to be approved for that and I’ll see if I can use that as an option.
If anyone has any other options that are viable to try, please let me know!
Cool Comic Recommendation
Oh Joy Sex Toy by Erika Moen, Matthew Nolan, Hien Pham, and many more!
I assume most folks know about Oh Joy Sex Toy, but in case you don’t: Oh Joy Sex Toy is a sexy and sex-ed comics site which has a huge archive of reviews, sex-ed, fictional and autobio comics. It’s just over 12 years old now and helped me when I was finally just learning about sex-ed in my early 20s.
I’ve also done quite a lot of comics for them, with one-offs and regular monthly comics from 2021 to 2023 and… oh! You should be sure to read the comic coming out on September 19th 👀 👀 👀
For the last two years I’ve also been doing social media posting for them on Mastodon and Pillowfort, so that’s me if you ever get a reply on either of those.
Other Things
I’m back from vacation and had a great, relaxing time! Max and I had three weeks away from the internet and news and social media. We went swimming, I took lots of photos, and we worked on comics outside while listening to birds and looking out at the lake.
Commissions will be closed for now, my workload got a lot heavier after of coming back from vacation.
I was offered a teaching job at a local private college!!! School hasn’t started yet and I’m nervous and excited about this all at once!
Also to my knowledge, you ARE able to reply to this newsletter in your email if you ever want to leave a comment/feedback/fun fact for me and I’ll get an email reply.

An Announcement for August!!
I got a new contract and I’ll be hard at work getting settled on that so I’m taking a break my online store and from posting Tuesday comics both publicly and on Patreon during August. Excited to share new stuff with y’all in September though!

– Fun Friday art, for August I put together a few talks and tutorials that I’d never posted in written form so get ready to LEARN for $1+ Early Access members

– $5 monthly sketchbook. Every month Grab Bag members get a scanned copy of my sketchbook from that month. Lots of silly exploration doodles and concept art!

Webcomic Updates
This month, Max and I posted up our 4 page comic from the Ladies of Lupin zine that came out a few months back. This was a fun exploration on a young gay Fujiko and Lady Ginko from Part 1. It’s all done and posted so go forth and read it!

Not really a webcomic but I want to tell y’all about my “Treasures of Time” series that I’m posting over on Patreon and my VIP blog. The series is a large set of black and white photographs depicting the gang’s every day life. It’s been really fun to work on and will just be for Grab Bag members for now until I make enough to make it into a zine. I hope you’ll check it out, photos go up every Wednesday!
July’s Sketchbook

It was another busy month but I managed to get almost 30 pages done for the first time in a loooong time. I’ve got a lot of things on the go in this one: lots of redesigning old OCs, silly doodles, Cartoonist Coop work, TTRPG concepts, and going through some old sketchbooks to redraw some really old but fun designs and pitches. Plus of course, shoutout requests from my Private Collector folks!
Also on my old sketchbook hunt I came across a folder of 34 sketchbooks from 2015 to 2019 that I completely forgot about and have never posted. Would folks be interested in seeing those?

Like I said, August is going to be weird but hopefully I’ll get back into a real schedule in September!
Jigen: Before and After Zine
A new Lupin zine is available for preorders both physically and digitally.
50 Pages of art of Lupin III’s Jigen Daisuke collected for a community charity zine. All profits will be sent to Transgender Law Center. Preorder, books planned to ship before August ends.
Max and I have a 6 page comic in this zine and I cannot wait for you to read it!
I also got to design the keychain for the zine.

So if anyone has any reasonably priced alternatives please do let me know.
Cool Comic Recommendation
I only recently got caught up on this comic after it had been on my “to read” list for quite a while and what an absolute delight! The art is absolutely fantastic and I deeply enjoy a good fantasy tale.
Fairmeadow is about an orcish warrior Goma who after being quite injured in a war stumbles upon “Fairmeadow”, a commune of peaceful folk. Goma struggles in this new environment but maybe her walls begin to come down as she gets to know these new friends. Read and find out! This comic is still updating so be sure to add it to your RSS reader.
Other Things
The Topaz Comics Shop will be closed for physical shop orders until August 25th, but you can still buy PDFs!
Commissions will be closed for all of August as well, I’ll see about re-opening in September but that’s not a guarantee depending on my work load.
Dead City is the THIRD book in the Tales of Toronto featured book list on the Toronto Public Library. How cool is that?!

THE CURTAIN FALLS HAS ARRIVED!
I’m so so proud of this book and how it turned out. And that it’s done. This was my first big fictional project by myself. I wanted to keep it fairly short and manageable lest I be overwhelmed but it went really well. Hey and did you know the PDF and book come with extras? Like TEN pages of extras and a post card? June’s Sketchbook

It’s another month of lots of concept art! June was so busy with conventions and events but I somehow managed to get a bunch of sketching in. There’s a few pages of notes when I went to a day long seminar on comic making, maybe you’ll find it helpful — I know I did! And as always some great shoutout requests from the Private Collector crew, it’s always fun drawing so many JigZeni pieces and brand new things I’d never heard of before.
Wrapping up June’s Convention Events!
TCAF and CitrusCon were both so wonderful! I met so many great folks at both.
TCAF was in a different location this year and while it was extremely crowded, I did enjoy the new setup. TCAF is my favourite show of the year whether I’m boothing or attending. I also think having it be during Pride Month really helped. We got so many tourists coming through and were excited to see all the queer comics on our table! Thank you to everyone who came by!
This was also my first time boothing at CitrusCon and it was really delightful! I would absolutely sign-up for it again. If you like MLM works I highly recommend it.

THE CURTAIN FALLS HAS WRAPPED UP!
I started outlining and thumbnailing Curtains in 2020, then started the art for it in 2022 and now it’s complete! I’m so very proud of it. It was very ambitious for me, because thumbnailing a car chase isn’t quite the same as DRAWING the car chase.
The books have been paid for and are currently in production to be (hopefully) done in time for TCAF on June 7th-8th. Afterwards the PDF and book will be up and available in the Topaz Shop!

Pia & The Little Things by Clover
Pia & The Little Things is such a delightful webcomic with absolutely gorgeous artwork, beautiful illustrations in-between chapters of various bugs, moths, and other little critters, and I’m so excited to see what happens next! It’s very light and slice-of-life with a bits of drama and intrigue sprinkled in.
I had Pia on the mind this month because Clover let me use it as an example in my RSS talk so I just want to sing its praises a bit. Please go read it (and add it to your RSS reader of choice~)

Nib & Ink Fest 2025
May 31st is the last day of the Cartoonist Coop’s big month long online event!
NIF has been so exciting and great to be a part of. I’m on the promo committee for it and spent a lot of this year writing up social media posts for the Coop’s socials to post.
The PDF copy of Dead City is available in the NIF shop plus so many other cool comics! AND you can still watch my talk “RSS & You” I hope I can convince some folks to give RSS a shot. All the talks are available even after NIF is over on the youtube channel.

Awkward Zombie by Katie Tiedrich
So I’ve been reading Awkward Zombie since I was 16 in 2006 and I cannot believe Katie is still going strong on these. The comics continue to be an absolute delight. If you haven’t read or heard of Awkward Zombie, they’re one pages comics usually about various video game goofs; including Smash Bros, Legend of Zelda, and more!

I’ve been on the NIF committee since the concept began (I got to name the fest itself wow!) and I am so excited to see it come to fruition.

Cool Comic Recommendation
I’ve been reading Sakana since it’s inception back on SmackJeeves (where we were also posting Dead City) and it is absolutely one of my favourite on-going webcomics. It’s sweet, the comedy is so good, the art is incredible! What more could you want?
The story follows Jiro Sakana who works at a fish market in Japan and is trying to get a date with the cute girl who works across from him. Hilarity ensues.
Did I mention there’s also queer characters? You’ll love them.

Max and I have a 15 page story in this really wonderful anthology from Filthy Figments.
Kaye is looking forward to his next Grindr date when he starts hearing some unusual rumours. Will his date really be a five-dick having, pro-bono lawyer, who can make you orgasm for 15 minutes straight? Intrigued by the mystery, Kaye is ready to get to the bottom (and maybe bottom for) the mysterious Paul Bunyan. Disney Villains Cursed Café?!!?!
So that secret game project I was working on for the last two and a half years? It’s out!
I was the character artist on the game, my work for the game consisted of 104 character poses and reactions with blinks, flips and interchangeable arms and items, main cast café background character art, 30 cutscene illustrations, 36 potion effects, some character design and refining, and fake text design.
So my favourites to draw were Yzma, Hook, and Maleficent for sure and I think it shows. When you get the chance to design cute outfits for Yzma and make her react to things you kinda think “I never thought this is where I’d be” and it was really wonderful.
It was such a joy to work with my art director Shel Kahn and the whole team at Bloom Digital on this big project. As a small studio, we are all so proud of this game.
I’m going to be working on another game with Bloom so I can’t wait to yell about the next one too!

I’ve been doing a lot of social media work for the Nib & Ink Festival committee over at the Cartoonist Coop. I’ll be doing a panel about RSS feeds and you’ll be seeing Dead City in the lineup of comics to read and buy!

Phew, that was a busy one! Onwards to April!
I drew all (but 4) poses, cutscenes and some potion effects for the game. I also got to design and refine some of the characters with the help from my art director Shel Kahn who is SUCH a joy to work with, along with the whole Bloom Digital Team!
We’re all so proud of this game and I hope y’all enjoy it because I had a great time drawing these characters!
