Pokemon AU
Mikael and JP grew up together and went on their Pokemon journey together when they were kids. JP had a knack for battling but Mikael didn’t. Mikael ended up running a Pokemon Sanctuary where abandoned Pokemon would be taken care of, so he’s around a lot of them but most are not his own. It took a long time for Mikael to get to 6 Pokemon of his own.
JP comes to the Sanctuary to make sure Mikael’s taking care of himself, and they have a great relationship with lots of respect, even if they went down different paths.

JP would probably be a gym leader or ace trainer. Mikael is the owner and caretaker of a pokemon sanctuary and only really owns Dwebble.
