Sketchbook Shoutouts 65 & 66

"Shoutout for Peggy" of Lupin and Jigen from Lupin Zero playing marbles together.

Sketchbook Shoutouts – 39

Four shoutouts for my Private Collector gang, it’s always really fun to draw folks’ ocs and some cute Lupin/Jigens!

Every month that someone pledges to the Private Collector tier on Patreon, they get an inked doodle shoutout that appears in my monthly sketchbook, usually waist up and a max of two characters. The request acts as mini commissions and folks can ask for their OCs, my OCs, or any kind of fanart.

Coming Out

He says “So…?” Panel two, a larger panel with a close up shot of his face as he turns around and looks to the right, his expression is pained and there’s a tear in his eye. He yells “Doesn’t that bother you?!” Panel three is a wide panel with young Lupin in the center from the shoulders up. He’s mad as Jigen accuses him. He says “No. Should it?” Panel four is an open panel of the two boys looking at each other from a side view. Jigen is leaning back away, while Lupin leans in closer with a determined and expectant expression.Comic with three panels, done in black and white with halftones. Young Jigen is startled and unsure of himself, he says “N-no…” Panel two is a big open panel with no borders or backgrounds, it shows a confident young Lupin with his hands on his hips and his eyes closed. He’s blushing and looking down and to the left with his shoulders by his ears, still a bit tense, but smiling now. He says “Uhh, yeah. Okay. Cool.”

An idea I’ve had for a while, even before Zero, but after Zero came out I thought that’d be the perfect way to present the idea.

This page in particular, the dialogue has been floating around in my head for probably well over a year now.

Also testing out TrueGrit’s halftone machine on this comic and… I gotta say y’all, I kinda love it! I’ve been wanting to do more halftone work but haven’t been able to find a look I like or a method that fits well with my workflow.

Family

Comic page, 3 panels. Panel 1 shows a young Jigen looking surprised to the right with a black eye, a speech bubble overlaid on the corner of the panel reading "Fuck your dad". Panel 2 shows a young Lupin angry and looking down to the right while gritting his teeth, a speechbubble reads "What if--". Panel 3 is an open panel with the two boys sitting together on a wall, Lupin is leaning his head down on Jigen's shoulder. Jigen is blushing and his fists are tight on his knees. Lupin is sad and his arms lay limp between his knees. Speechbubble reads "What if I was your family instead?".

Had this idea back in December. It was originally about Lupin with a black eye, but then then the finale of Zero came out and I liked Lupin’s dad way more than I ever expected! So Jigen’s dad became the jerk of this story instead. My intention for “family” here is “we’re married” and not “we’re brothers”.

Update:
Ohmygosh @rants-about-opm wrote a fic based on this comic and it’s so extremely cute and on point! They really got what I was going for and expanded this 3 panel comic into something really sweet.
