Redrawing characters from 2012 (and older) but the bottom drawing was done in 2012.

I admit I’ve struggled with same-face characters for a long time and after years of working on these characters in particular I think I’ve finally achieved my goal of making sure they’re all different enough! If you struggle with anything art-wise just keep at it and you’ll make yourself happy one day!

So for September I actually did/and finished a challenge where I’d draw a character from my upcoming comic “Skargarden” with a fairly good expression. Usually one that suits their personalities best.

These are some characters that you might see in the comic. Designs may change though. It was a lot of fun! And it’s a good way to have a broad look at all the characters I might use and see who needs to change.

BAM! Finally some good art, and some proper fullbody refs of Djuri’s crazy family. Wow, they’ve come a long way since THEN! Ohman, that was almost two years ago now. Ohjeeze. And back then, none of them really had any personality either.

So left to right: Falcor, Sindri, Ulf, Eitri, Djuri.

We already know everything about Djuri really. Uh, and I’m hoping to do proper sheets for her family, so I don’t want to get too into rambling right now. Also not pictured, Benevelen (who doesn’t actually live in the same town). Ah, I also changed a lot about their clothing to suit their growing personalities better. Also I lopped off Falcor’s leg. I’m not sorry.

Beware for a wall of writing again. Yes, lookit me, another redo of a sheet. I am on a roll! I really wanted to redo Djuri’s though, not ‘cause she’s changed much, but because my art has, and I drew her old sheet almost two years ago now… wow. So here’s a new one for her. She’s just gotten more grumpy, and her wings are a lot smaller… not much else really.

Full Name: Djúrí Falcosdóttír (Dyure-ee Fal-kose-dot-ter)
Age: 20
Ruler: Bahamut
Species: Draconian (Western Dragon)
Gender: Female (pretends to be male)
Nationality: Nordic (Viking)
Status: In a relationship with Gavriil
Orientation: Straight
Height: 5’6”
Class: Middle
Personality:
-Strength Keywords: Loyal, passionate, resourceful, observant, strong-Willed, determined.
-Weakness Keywords: Jealous, obsessive, suspicious, secretive, stubborn, sarcastic.

Djúrí is a complicated character, despite how she likes to keep things simple. She is known for her possessiveness and jealousy, but is also very loyal. She has a good memory and will always remember how people treat her and combining this to her inability to let things go, Djúrí can hold a deep grudge. Though, she will also remember those who were kind to her and make sure they are repaid.

Being a dragon and a Viking makes Djúrí extremely stubborn and independent. This gives her a large fear of failure, and doesn’t like to be shown as weak; with this mentality, Djúrí tries to be as boyish as she can under the assumption that masculinity is strength. She is extremely careful with her secret of being female. Because of her secrets, she is very wary about trusting people. Though Djúrí will go out and ask questions about others. Djúrí is very curious, but also is prone to having a big mouth and frequently gossips.

History:
Djúrí spent her whole life in a small Viking village of less than a hundred people. The village consisted entirely of dragons, located in the north east on a rocky island. Her parents were very young when they began their family. Though her three brothers, her father, and herself were all dragons, her mother was not. Benevelen, Djúrí’s mother, was a harpy from the main land. Being the only harpy in a village that was only populated by dragons was not the easiest thing, especially since genetically, Benevelen was very androgynous and was constantly being bothered by the other villagers for it. After having three dragon sons, she was sure Djúrí would be a bird, but was extremely disappointed when she wasn’t. So Benevelen took Djúrí to the Kiwitch, in hopes of changing this, but the witch urged her not to. She listened, and took Djúrí back home, unchanged. After that though, Benevelen left, and none of them have seen her since.

Djúrí grew up being the only girl in the house and ended up taking on more boyish traits. The young dragon also inherited her mother’s androgyny, and small wings (which she could never fly with), and this made her a very easy target for bullies. The bullying was never what bothered her though, it was that in the village, Djúrí was always expected to be something she wasn’t. Her father, Falcor, had lost his leg and wasn’t able to work his fishing boat anymore, thus the job was handed down to his sons. Djúrí would never be able to help properly because of her small wings, so she stayed home and helped her father’s new blacksmith shop attached to their house. She was expected to help him every day. But at school, she was expected to be something completely different, more feminine. Taking classes that the girls had to take: cooking, homework, etiquette. The girls were never the nicest to poor Djúrí. They constantly made fun of how she wasn’t girly enough, how she couldn’t cook as well as them, how she slumped when she sat. They called her a boy, and she could never go play with them. The boys weren’t much better. They too, wouldn’t let her play with them, because she was a girl… she had to go play with dolls, not swords. The only one who never judged her, was her own brother, Sindri. She and her oldest brother became very close, and always told her to never give in to how people saw her.

Years later after putting up with all the loneliness that came with not fitting in, Djúrí realized she didn’t want to be a blacksmith, or a fisherman. She wanted to create, and draw, and see the world. So after a lot of convincing, her family (mainly just her father and Sindri) let her go. She’d live off the commissions she made creating for people. Djúrí packed up her sketchbooks and left. Her first decision on her own, was to tell everyone she was male, because she assumed the rest of the world was just like her village. Djúrí liked the freedom that comes with masquilinity. So she travels the continent, content with her new life, and checks in on her family every so often.

Misc.:
-Traveling artisan and seamstress
-Gets by using commission money
-Slow runner
-Always keeps a sketchbook in her bag
-Always keeps needle and thread in her bag
-Can’t fly
-Flat chested
-155lbs
-Has no musical talent
-Has a strong throw
-Self-conscious about her body
-Likes layers and thick, warm clothing
-Dislikes most things associated with women
-Likes the simple life

Happy Birthday to LadyFrog!
Married Life – Pixar’s Up

Congratulations on getting old, Jenny!

I really wanted to draw something nice for her, as in not just a doodle. So I’ve been having lots of feelings about Gav and Djuri when they’re much older… or just them in general. And I’ve doodled Djuri as an old lady already, but I haven’t coloured anything yet. That and, me, Michelle, and Morgan, watched “Up” recently, and… Djuri would be Carl. I don’t even care.

Anywho, so yes, Gav would be as handsome as his dad when he grows old. I assume they’re actually pretty old here, over a hundred for sure (since in my mind dragons live pretty long), and Trez lives well over a hundred, so would Gav. It makes sense, I swear. Also, not going to spoil much, but something big/horrible happens to Djuri, in which she stops wearing her hat and outs that she’s a girl finally. I’m really loving the poofy clothes on her though, she’d be so layered, ohman. Also in which, Gav sports a massive braid, ‘cause he’d hang out with the vikings too much. And his hair just… grows. Damnit Gav.

Well, yeah, so hope you like it Jen. I did a background and everything! OKAY?! Though the ocean is super easy to draw… shhhhh.

WHAAAAA…. OCs! Wow. Lookit that.

Just a small doodle I did at 3am last night of some of Skar characters if they were in the real world/human. Y’know, ‘cause I’m weird. Not sure if I’ll do more, but here’s this for now.
