Cool Comic Recommendation

Awkward Zombie by Katie Tiedrich

So I’ve been reading Awkward Zombie since I was 16 in 2006 and I cannot believe Katie is still going strong on these. The comics continue to be an absolute delight. If you haven’t read or heard of Awkward Zombie, they’re one pages comics usually about various video game goofs; including Smash Bros, Legend of Zelda, and more!

Nib & Ink Fest 2025

Starting tomorrow is the Cartoonist Coop’s big month long online event!!! It’s free and anyone can attend!

I’ve been on the NIF committee since the concept began (I got to name the fest itself wow!) and I am so excited to see it come to fruition.

I’ll have the PDF copy of Dead City available in the NIF shop AND I’ve got a talk on May 17th at 1pmEST about RSS, come by, ask questions and learn how to make following people you like better.

Updates
Sketchbook Shoutouts 57 & 58

Four black and white illustrations on one image, each illustration is contained in a rectangular panel. "Shoutout for Peggy, happy birthday" shows a young Jigen sitting at a desk with his eyes closed and day dreaming about a young smiling Lupin. "Shoutout for Bridget" two anthropomorphic dogs play in a band together, one in the foreground on an electric guitar and the other in the back rocking out on some drums. "Shoutout for TLC" where their original character, Gunter, is looking gruffly at the viewer with his hand to his mouth holding a cigarette. "Shoutout for Max" a shoulder up shot of Alex from Stardew Valley with his arm behind his head in a nervous gesture as he says "This is cool! Thanks." while blushing and smiling.

Another batch of shoutout requests from my Private Collectors on https://patreon.com/jpawlik and https://jpawlik.com/vipblog – Last year I changed up how I did shoutouts so now they’re all the same size!

March’s Sketchbook

This month’s sketchbook is up for the Grab Bag tier on Patreon and my VIP Blog

Here’s this month’s sketchbook! There’s some fun concept art, a bunch of silly doodles, comic planning and more – and as always some great shoutout requests from the Private Collector folks!

Also enjoy a sneak peak into some comic sketches for the comic I did with Max for the Transfixed anthology! The pages I picked are SFW, with a minor NSFW mention on one page and some smooching on another. Hope you enjoy because we had such a fun time with this concept.

Cool Comic Recommendation

Sakana by Mad Rupert

I’ve been reading Sakana since it’s inception back on SmackJeeves (where we were also posting Dead City) and it is absolutely one of my favourite on-going webcomics. It’s sweet, the comedy is so good, the art is incredible! What more could you want?

The story follows Jiro Sakana who works at a fish market in Japan and is trying to get a date with the cute girl who works across from him. Hilarity ensues.

Did I mention there’s also queer characters? You’ll love them.

Transfixed – Trans & Genderqueer Erotic Fairy Tales Anthology

"Transfixed Anthology" panel, showing a modern day Paul Bunyan in a semi-realistic style. Paul, a handsome man with short black hair while wearing a toque and sporting a small moustache and beard, is smiling for a photo while holding a fish up for the camera. Text is overlayed over the photo reading "Paul Bunyan, transmasc he/him. Looking to get out and meet some more people in the city." Text below the panel reads "Now on Kickstarter" with a star emoji.

Max and I have a 15 page story in this really wonderful anthology from Filthy Figments.

Kaye is looking forward to his next Grindr date when he starts hearing some unusual rumours. Will his date really be a five-dick having, pro-bono lawyer, who can make you orgasm for 15 minutes straight? Intrigued by the mystery, Kaye is ready to get to the bottom (and maybe bottom for) the mysterious Paul Bunyan. Legends of Paul Bunyan, Transman is a contemporary trans masc4masc story based on the legend of Paul Bunyan, American folk hero. (Legends of Paul Bunyan, Transman by Max & Jey)

Now on Kickstarter

Disney Villains Cursed Café?!!?!

So that secret game project I was working on for the last two and a half years? It’s out!

I was the character artist on the game, my work for the game consisted of 104 character poses and reactions with blinks, flips and interchangeable arms and items, main cast café background character art, 30 cutscene illustrations, 36 potion effects, some character design and refining, and fake text design.

So my favourites to draw were Yzma, Hook, and Maleficent for sure and I think it shows. When you get the chance to design cute outfits for Yzma and make her react to things you kinda think “I never thought this is where I’d be” and it was really wonderful.

It was such a joy to work with my art director Shel Kahn and the whole team at Bloom Digital on this big project. As a small studio, we are all so proud of this game.

I’m going to be working on another game with Bloom so I can’t wait to yell about the next one too!

Other Things

It’s the last day to get this huge bundle of books and comics by trans creators! Go check it out, Max and I have our Jan and Isabelle sexy comics in this one. Trans Rights Readathon Bundle on Itch.io

I’ve been doing a lot of social media work for the Nib & Ink Festival committee over at the Cartoonist Coop. I’ll be doing a panel about RSS feeds and you’ll be seeing Dead City in the lineup of comics to read and buy!

Max, Amiel and I will be sharing a booth at TCAF this year! Come by and say hi in June.

I’m still open for commissions! If you’ve been wanting some art from me, now is the time because I don’t know when I’ll be able to take them again after my next contract.

Happy TDOV! I came out as nonbinary 10 years ago today, that’s so wild!

~~~
Phew, that was a busy one! Onwards to April!
Updates
I WAS IN A NINTENDO DIRECT?!
OKAY! SO for the last 2 and a half years I was brought on as the character artist for this game and today it’s OUT on your platform of choice!
I drew all (but 4) poses, cutscenes and some potion effects for the game. I also got to design and refine some of the characters with the help from my art director Shel Kahn who is SUCH a joy to work with, along with the whole Bloom Digital Team!
We’re all so proud of this game and I hope y’all enjoy it because I had a great time drawing these characters!
