Coming Out

Comic with four panels, done in black and white with halftones. Panel one shows a young Jigen with his back to the camera and his shoulders tense. He says “So…?” Panel two, a larger panel with a close up shot of his face as he turns around and looks to the right, his expression is pained and there’s a tear in his eye. He yells “Doesn’t that bother you?!” Panel three is a wide panel with young Lupin in the center from the shoulders up. He’s mad as Jigen accuses him. He says “No. Should it?” Panel four is an open panel of the two boys looking at each other from a side view. Jigen is leaning back away, while Lupin leans in closer with a determined and expectant expression.Comic with three panels, done in black and white with halftones. Panel one floats atop a big open panel. Young Jigen is startled and unsure of himself, he says “N-no…” Panel two is a big open panel with no borders or backgrounds, it shows a confident young Lupin with his hands on his hips and his eyes closed. He says “I mean my grandpa is into guys too, you know. So I know what’s up!” Panel three is a big wide panel with Jigen in the center from the waist up. He’s blushing and looking down and to the left with his shoulders by his ears, still a bit tense, but smiling now. He says “Uhh, yeah. Okay. Cool.”

An idea I’ve had for a while, even before Zero, but after Zero came out I thought that’d be the perfect way to present the idea.

This page in particular, the dialogue has been floating around in my head for probably well over a year now.

Also testing out TrueGrit’s halftone machine on this comic and… I gotta say y’all, I kinda love it! I’ve been wanting to do more halftone work but haven’t been able to find a look I like or a method that fits well with my workflow.

Family

Had this idea back in December. It was originally about Lupin with a black eye, but then then the finale of Zero came out and I liked Lupin’s dad way more than I ever expected! So Jigen’s dad became the jerk of this story instead. My intention for “family” here is “we’re married” and not “we’re brothers”.

Update:
Ohmygosh @rants-about-opm wrote a fic based on this comic and it’s so extremely cute and on point! They really got what I was going for and expanded this 3 panel comic into something really sweet.

Go give them kudos and lovely comments!

Lupin’s Gourmet World Zine Piece: Eggnog
Michelle and I did a comic for the Lupin’s Gourmet World zine. How it worked was chef’s submitted recipes and an artist got paired up to each recipe to illustrate it. So we got Sel’s eggnog recipe, which I did actually make myself successfully!
Photo of two glasses of eggnog with a full mason jar of eggnog beside them.
Michelle submitted two recipes as a chef as well; spicy pickles and danmuji!

Hourly Comics Day 2023

This year’s Hourlies! It was a bit of frantic February 1st for me this year. I can’t believe I’ve managed to do this every year for 8 years!

I highly recommend listening to the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett and maybe checking out the comic I put up for preorder *shameless plug*

All my previous hourlies can be read right here~

A Mini Guide to RSS Feeds

Comic page giving a mini tutorial on what an RSS feed is. Panel 1: One, on Feedly click the follow button. Two, copy the URL from the site's RSS button and add it to the search box. Panel 2: Three, this will bring up the feed for the site. Four, Add it by clicking the follow button. You can also search the name of the site without the RSS link but it's more accurate if you have the link. Panel 3: Add the new feed to a folder. Panel 4: Now the feed will appear on your Feedly when it updates! Panel 5: What I did was get the Feedly add-on for my browser. So every time a site I follow updates the extension lets me know! Panel 6: Clicking the title of the update opens the site in a new tab. I personally like seeing content on it's own site. But you can set everything up so you only ever need to open Feedly.

Comic page giving a mini tutorial on what an RSS feed is. Panel 1:If you run a site make sure your RSS button is easily accessible. The URL will usually be something like yoursite.com/feed or yoursite.com/rss. Panel 2: Be sure to follow your own RSS feeds to make sure they're updating properly. This way if it goes down for whatever reason you'll be able to catch the problem before your readers miss too many updates. Panel 3: And that's all there is to it! It's very customizable so play around with it to see what works for you! Panel 4: No fuss. No algorithms. Just the updates you choose to see! Hey! My favourite comic updated!

With all the talk about Twitter and social media going on, I felt really inspired to do a comic about RSS feeds. This is a really barebones guide but I hope it helps you stay updated with your favourite webcomics, artists and websites.

The nice thing about RSS feeds is that almost any kind of site has one, so if you wanted you could add user feeds from tumblr, twitter, mastodon, etc. here’s some helpful guides on how to add those (1) (2)

I hope you found this little guide helpful. I’m just a simple guy who’s passionate about RSS feeds, comics and staying updated using both. Go forth and make the feed of your dreams!

A graphic announcing "RSS & You" for the Nib and Ink Fest 2025 on May 17th, 2025 at 1:00 PM EST on Zoom featuring panelist Jey Pawlik. The panel description reads, "A rundown on what RSS is, how webcomics can utilize it, and how readers can organize what they're reading. This event is for webcomic creators and readers alike." An anthropomorphic inkwell and an anthropomorphic both holding comic pages decorate the graphic.
