Okay, so my friend Cal came over to watch the new episode of Korra. I hooked my comp to my flatscreen, and we watched it on the flat. After the ep, Cal started doodling something for a friend, and I was browsing through my sketchbook scan folders for refs for an OC I was going to draw. Cal looked up at my tv, and told me to go back a page, so I did. Then she asked why I drew Mako at the bottom of the page. I stared at it for a second, then looked at the date (because I’m OCD and date every page of my sketchbooks), the date was back in October… even before I’d properly watched the original Avatar series, so well before I knew what Korra was for sure… let alone who Mako was.
Thus, I decided to take the doodle into Photoshop and make it Mako. It worked pretty damn well. I don’t know why it’s so amusing to me…

And now for something completely different. I wanted to be artistic at 2am for the passed week, in between doing commissions, and pulled out this. The consistancy is awful, as is the anatomy, but it was 2am and I didn’t care.
I wanted to put my own take on the 2012 ver. meets the 70’s ver. and I decided to use the actual script from the 70’s, which was FRIGGIN’ HARD TO DO, since Once-ler is a completely different character, but I really tried to make it work. I don’t want to depict Once-ler as creepy, the linework is just showing how dirty and gritty he became. In my mind, if this were to happen, he’d be so far in denial, he’d just be scaring himself into thinking he’s doing good. Ohman, I had this huge thing I was going to type… but I lost it.

OHMAN, I haven’t done a piece like this in a LONG ASS TIME. Ohhhhhjeeeeze, I really miss doing enormous projects. This was alot of fun, and took around two days-ish. I tried this weird way of doing the lineart, which makes it looks more precise and crisp. I also haven’t done a FULL digital piece in fooorrrreeeeevvveeeerrrrrr.
Anywho, I’m really diggin’ this, and… I’d love to do more! This commission was $40, so… if anyone’s interested~

Requested by LesPetitesReveries “Once-ler as a firebender” to go along with her Once-ler as a waterbender drawing that I’d requested. So… in a way, this ended up being more like an art trade. So we’ve got Innocent-ler for water, and Greed-ler for fire. Seems about right?
