Webcomic Updates

Journal Entry DIY Strap-Ons Comic by Jey Pawlik, done in cool minty green tones with heavy blacks and black linework on top of textured paper with handwritten notes, stickers and washi tape made to look like a scrapbook. Young Jey in this comic is a questioning nonbinary person who uses they/them pronouns, has thin rectangular glasses, shaggy black hair and wearing simple clothes like a hoodie with jeans throughout the comic. Their partner, Max, is thin and sports a dark bob haircut, and wears a long sleeved top and skinny jeans. Narration: Back in our 20s, my partner and I visited Good For Her (a local sex toy shop) in Toronto. While we’d never been before – I was eager to take a look and maybe buy my very first strap on. Jey and Max arrive at the shop and start looking around in awe. They pick up a fancy looking strap-on, but the price tag is immensely high with three dollar signs and Jey says “Oh no, that price tho.” Their partner replies “Yeesh, yeah we can’t afford that on our budgets. Maybe we can find something smaller? More affordable?” and Max looks over to see a pack of o-rings for cheap. “You know what? We could just make our own strap-ons!” Max exclaims. Jey replies “Wait, for real?!” The two run off hand in hand. The bottom portion is covered by a pink ribbon with the text "Read the rest on Oh Joy Sex Toy".

This month’s OJST comic came out on the 11th, “Journal Entry: DIY Strap On”! Don’t have enough money for a fancy strap-on? Why not follow this fun autobio guide on how to craft your own strap-on!

A DIY guide for y’all with some true stories from my early 20s. It’s always weird to draw my younger self for an entire comic, I kept accidentally drawing my big glasses instead.

Read it here for free!

Currently updating on Topaz Comics: The comic Max and I did for Tsushi’s charity zine “Jigen Before and After” — which raised $500 towards the Transgender Law Center!!

“Jigen, Now and Then” is a 6 page comic about Jigen on the hunt for Lupin as they grow apart. The first 2 pages are currently up, buuuut if you want to read the whole thing on Patreon or buy the physical copy!

Patreon Updates

This month’s sketchbook is up over on Patreon!

Enjoy mostly some silly doodles this month. And of course some great shoutout requests from some Private Collector folks!

Did you know I do post a sketchbook PDF at the end of every month? AND you can see all those in the Sketchbook PDF collection if you’re a $5 and up member?!

More on Patreon this month:

The Ins and Outs of Webcomics REMASTER PDF is up and available to download for $5 and up members right NOW!

This is a redraw of a comic I did in 2020 for the Canada Comics Open Library, and upon teaching webcomics now I realised I wanted to update the comic to give to my students. This comic now has updated art, tips, and info on how to start your own webcomic!

The comic will be also going out weekly for $1+ members two months before pages will go up for free over on Topaz Comics.

Cool Comic Recommendation

Gym Punk by Olibhéare

Gym Punk is a brand new nuzlocke comic by the ever talented Olibhéare! Follow Hal as he, a 30 year old, goes on his first Pokemon journey through Hoenn. The art is fun and the jokes are so charming.

I used to read a lot of nuzlockes back in my DeviantArt days, so a comic like this feels so nostalgic to me.

I also made a cool little rotating banner for my blog, where each comic I’ve recommended will appear every time you refresh the page or move to a different page on the site!

Other Things

I’ve just got 2 more classes left of the semester. It went by like a blur but, y’know? I think I really like teaching. Especially teaching comics!

I’m taking December off from a few things like OJST to get all my end of semester work done (lots of marking), so I won’t have a new comic in January but I’ll be back at the beginning of February with a new one so don’t you worry.

Wow, what a month! Here’s to December and nearing the end of 2025!
