This is my third time trying to remake his sheet, but I think I’m finally happy with it. JP is the hardest person ever to figure out how to friggin’ draw. Frig. But I think my artblock has passed long enough for me to finally submit this. Also his personality is a ton different from when I first made him, so his whole sheet needed a redo. I’ll be re-posting Djuri soon too. Also I have no idea how to do the read more thing when I have my html enabled, it bugs the hell out of me when it’s not.

There is a lot more to Jean-Paul than meets the eye. He is a huge, intimidating alligator bodyguard (although much smaller than the average gator), but those few who do get to know him know that he is much more than that. Jean-Paul is the sort of man who is an excellent friend, but has few close friends as opposed to many acquaintances. The small amount he holds close to are always guarded and protected, and are treated like family. He is fiercely loyal and dependable, but can be quiet and very defensive around strangers.
History:
No one knows what happened to Jean-Paul’s parents; he doesn’t have any, and he is not set on finding out why. He was, and still is, very tiny for his species (regardless of how large he actually is), and was wandering the streets of Zemli for the first few years of his life. Jean-Paul lived off the small fish he could catch and anything that the richer folk would throw out or give to him. This forced him to mature quicker than he normally would have while he was trying to keep himself alive. When he was seven and making the rounds up and down the alleys of Zemli looking for some food he witnessed a small shark undine being picked on by a few older boys of the same species. Without pausing to think, Jean-Paul intervened and protected the smallest shark, getting a few bruises in the process. After he managed to chase them off, Jean-Paul helped the undine find his parents–which was none other than the king of Zemli, Trezubets. And as thanks for saving the prince, and learning the gator was all alone, Trezubets took him in and adopted him as his own.
Jean-Paul and Gavriil grew up extremely close. Both were homeschooled in the palace together by a private teacher, and they really looked out for each other while Trezubets was busy running the city. Gavriil was the more favoured of the pair, especially with the higher ups. This always bothered Jean-Paul, feeling like they did not see him as a son of Trezubets. Though he was liked by the staff of the castle, and he often spent what time he was away from the shark prince with them. He was particularly close with the head cook Gotovit, who taught him how to prepare all the palace cuisine. Jean-Paul was frequently poked fun at by younger members of the palace society for being too large. This made him look up to any adult figure who was not as lean and thin as most of the sharks in the city. Along with the steadily growing Trezubets, the larger puffer fish Gotovit gave him some confidence in being comfortable with his own size.
During his teen years, Jean-Paul began to lose a lot of his self confidence. While he and his brother were still very close, Gavriil was far more popular with kids their own age, and especially with the ladies. Jean-Paul on the other hand could not seem to get a date to save his life. At seventeen a pod of monk whales were passing by who Trezubets let stay in the palace over night. The gator immediately looked up to the larger men, asking them for advice and teachings. They did what they could, but the whales would not be staying long enough to help him really grow comfortable in his own scales. Looking for something to remember the men by, and having scales too thick to get tattoos like them, Jean-Paul instead got his earlobe pierced. The monks than gave him an earring meaning ‘good luck’ as a gift before leaving. Not long afterwards he attempted to give himself a second piercing, but ended up taking a chunk out of his ear instead. He was eventually successful, but never tried to get another one after that.
The alligator never had much luck for most of his life, but grew to be fairly content (or just used to) what he had.
